Our Constitution
Full Title:
The Medway Mermaids
Purpose:
- To provide a constructive and creative environment for women writers of all disciplines and genres in Medway.
- To create a forum for the exchange of ideas and materials, for the benefit of group members.
- To contribute to the wider Medway arts scene.
Range of Activities:
- Participating in common writing activities and readings.
- Providing constructive feedback on work submitted to the group.
- Providing opportunities for contact with writers and publishing industry professionals.
- Developing a bank of resources and tools to aid group members’ writing skills.
Membership:
· Membership is open to women only, by application to the executive committee.
· There shall be no more than fifteen members at any one time; a waiting list for prospective members above this number will be held by the chair.
Honorary Officers and Committees:
- Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer (the executive committee) to be appointed annually at an Annual General Meeting.
- Voting – one vote per member. Voting decisions by simple majority.
- 66% of vote required for constitutional changes, budget-setting or major financial decisions.
Regulations and Dissolution:
- All groups and committee members must accept that all communications with public (press releases, applications for exhibition/performance space, etc) related to ‘The Medway Mermaids’ are processed and approved by the committee prior to release.
- Any member may resign to the group verbally or by writing to the Secretary.
- Amendments to the constitution may be agreed upon by the committee at the either the monthly meeting to the Annual General Meeting.
- All monies, fixtures and fittings, on dissolution, will be transferred to organizations whose aims are consistent with those of the group.
